New Arrivals Update

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this time of year. There's SO much new stuff arriving constantly, which is really exciting and great for sales but man it's alot of hard work! We shot a mountain of new stock this afternoon, which will all be uploaded in the next few days, and a newsletter went out last night with the last fornight's worth of newbies (today has been flat chat! Looking forward to some choc chip cookies and a cup of tea later tonight...). Here's some of our fave new pieces:

Purple Ginger One Shouldered Maxi, $149.95 This is the kind of dress that makes me want to type in caps lock or with lots of !!!!! It's one shouldered, it's long and flowing, the colours are gorgeous and it's effortlessly elegant. Sooki Baby Etsy Dots Dress, $32.95 Not many kid's labels do black for summer. But they should, because it looks amazing. Especially with polka dots.

Indy C Metal Weave Cuff, $14.95 These add just the right amount of interest to your outfit, without being overwhelming. Available in silver or gold, they look so cool with a summer maxi or tank and cutoffs combo!

Blue Juice continues to be one of our best-selling labels, and it with much cyber-whooping and cheering that the new collection has been received by you guys! 50's Sweetheart Shirt $69.95 It's pale pink, it has polka dots, it's postitively pretty! Very feminine, it has a cool cutout detail on the back (but a bra-friendly one) and a totally retro feel.

Candy Street T-Bar Zip Back Top, $49.95 If you're not going for the pastel look this season, you'll be pleased to know the other major must-have is cool, grungy, military-inspired pieces like this simple t-back zip tank - easy to wear, it adds a little something extra to a versatile basic. Sale Time!

Ah, June. The official start of winter, so you can eat loads of mashed potatoes and steaming casseroles and warm puudings oozing with sticky sauce. So you can start to actually bust out that amazing coat and those fabulous boots you've been hoarding since they hit the shops in the middle of sumer. So you can hit the sales and stock up your wardrobe, guilt-free. I already gave my cards a working out in Myer today - their %off stocktake sale really begins tonight for MyerOne cardholders, or tomorrow for everyone, but all their markdowns were done and they had loads of "stocktake preview specials" dotted throughout the store. I may have been naughty on the frock front, but I did restrain myself a little - a gorgeous, deep berry red Cue party dress down to $74 from $249 very nearly made it's way to my cupboard, but the straps didn't sit quite right. Pre-Recession I would've shrugged and bought it anyway, but in these leaner times I thought twice about it. And also wondered exactly where I was going to wear it, considering there are at least 5 party frocks in my wardrobe that haven't graced the dancefloor yet. See - sale time is all about being sensible.

Markdowns! 'Cos it's cool to be pov

It's never been so cool as right now to admit you have no money. In an obvious backlash to the noughties bling-filled days of excess, suddenly it's all about being thrifty. I've had so many conversations with people lately who love to tell me about their low bank balance, spendthrift ways and need for a second casual job. These are people who used to not blink about dropping $300 on a top. They are ubertrendy people though, so maybe they're making it up just to keep up with the hipsters. Who knows? Anyway, if you actually are cool to the bone and have but a few spare $$$, you're in luck - shopping, especially online, has never been so cheap! With many stores offering 30% off and upwards (and not for a day or two like we do, but for at least a week; check NSO for all the latest codes), labels doing mega clearouts at warehouse sales and online (good news for those of us not in Syd or Melb) and department stores going more nuts than usual with offers, the shopaholics within us all can breathe a little easier...and pay the power bill on time.

So, we thought we might as well join in the fun, and from today will be marking down manically across the store (with the exception of the items we hold year-round)! One Teaspoon has been done - I'm talking all swimwear at $49, clothing from $25 - Dolly Rockers is now at 50% off (prices from just $15 for amazing handmade, statement necklaces!) and French Kitty is priced to clear, with everything from $25 - $34. American Apparel is also reduced to clear and all under $29! As you may have guessed, we're run off our feet here at FrockHQ 'cos of our mega birthday sale, so any musings on my growing additcion to ABC docos/people who wear heels in Coles/tingly anticipation for the new series of Masterchef are going to have to wait a couple of days while we pick and pack, wrap and stick all your bargains! Gosh, that was a long sentence.

The postcard doesn't lie. I (we) do wish you were here - many hands make light work after all. However, I'm very proud of Team Frock as we are alot more caught up with orders then I thought we'd be. Basically, orders placed up until 1:30pm today are on their way to you, and any after that (and before about 3pm tomorrow) will be out tomorrow - which means bargains in your hot little hands before the weekend! And of course, the discount runs til 11:59pm on Thursday.

To be honest, most of the FrockYou stockroom is full of empty hangers after our mega Christmas sale and huge post-Christmas reductions. Frock You S/S'09/10 Frockalogue Sneak Peek!

Apologies for the quietness on the blogging front of late - aside from handling the oodles of new stock that is arriving instore daily, we've been busy little bees creating the Spring/Summer interactive catalogue for you! It's no small task - calling in samples, organising looks, booking models/locations/graphics, setting deadlines...plus it has been pouring with rain for the last few weeks (includinbg shoot days), making it difficult to get the whole carefree summer vibe across! However, in rare moments of sunshine (well, not-rain, anyway) we shot 3 different stories, and once the lovely Sabina finishes working her technical and design magic on the photos, it will be released for you to click-and-buy to your heart's content!

(Quick question - at this point, we're not printing copies because if you want to buy anything it has to be done through the website anyway, and we don't want to waste precious trees...but would a printed copy be something you Frockers would want to see, in a limited print run?)

New Spring Arrivals for Lady Frockers!

The last few weeks have been grey, dreary and rainy, but thankfully here at Frock HQ there are oodles of bright new Spring pieces to keep us from going nuts. Here's a few must-buys I thought I'd better alert you to before they sell out (Motel fans, take heed - many styles selling through at record rates despite being on the site less then a week!):

Sunny Girl Grey Boyfriend Blazer ($69.95): still a raging hot piece, the blazer is made lighter for spring, in a lovely shade of grey with a relaxed 'boyfriend' fit. Makes a pretty sundress that much more edgier (though grammatically dubious), or looks sexy and modern teamed with a tee and denim cutoffs. This version is a nice light linen and you can wear the sleeves cuffed to show off the cool stripey lining!

Living Doll V Neck Dress: this is a definite wardrobe staple - perfect for lazy summer days when it's too hot to care, for throwing over a bikini or accessorising with a belt/scarf/chunky bangles, it truly is an effortless piece that looks casual and chic at the same time. Plus it's only $34.95!

Motel Selina Dress ($110): I couldn't decide which Motel piece to put on here, as they are all really amazing this season, but I do like the bright blue skirt of the Selina dress (despite the name Selina making me think of the gummy Home & Away chick. Incidentally why is it called Home & Away? When are they ever 'Away'? Where are the scenes outside Summer Bay?) The jersey tank top and full skirt is flattering to pretty much everyone, unlike the skintight legging-jeans I saw a group of oversized bogan teenagers sporting in the local mall yesterday. OMG.

Two pieces from GRAB get a mention this week - the really really cool Ladder Detail Tank ($79.95), which has an edgy, rock chic style, and requires little else to make your outfit stand out, I'm thinking it's the perfect gigging top; and the chic Pointelle Wide Sleeve Knit ($89.95), which falls neatly into the 'dressy casual' category I like to pretend I invented to justify any expensive jeans that somehow end up in my wardrobe. Imagine this top with pale denim, a tan bag and heels - easy, simple and sophisticated.

A sweet little tee is a must for Spring, and French Kitty's Side Show Act Top ($49.95) has a cute bow at the neckline, giving it a nautical feel - but thankfully the pink and grey stripes make it more girly than yacht-y. Not that there's anything wrong with yacht-y, if it is even a word, but how many of us own a yacht on which to wear suitably nautical attire?

Sneaky Peaky Summer Preview: Part 1

Winter is awesome. It rains occassionally and then everything smells clean, you can snuggle into the couch in your pjs and watch dvds, sip hot choccies while reading magazines, and layer up in lush knits...mmm.....but there is something to be said for Summer. Aside from, y'know, it's WARM, and you can throw on a sweet frock and slip on comfy flats and just go. It's daylight for longer and you feel more like being healthy and eating fruit. We all know how frustrating it is when, in the murky depths of freezing Julys, the stores start getting in their spring and summer lines. It's stupid, becuase when summer actually comes around these items will be marked down to make way for next winter. But anyway. Due to the MASSIVE response to our mega awesome stocktake sale, we don't have much winter gear left, and thus are jumping on the bandwagon - herein may I present a preview of Summer 08/09: "hippie vintage rock chic" (and if you fit into bikinis, you're in for some real treats)...

First up, the eternally cool One Teaspoon. Remisicient of chilled out Glastonbury styles minus the mud, piss and beer, this range is actually really wearable and a good mix of trend-based pieces and fabulously unique pieces. And the swimwear willl blow your socks off, which is handy, because swimming in socks isn't really recommended.

Obviously a bit too much geek chic-ery going on, and don't stare too long at the bikini model's rib cage or you'll get freaked out, but this range will be stellar and I reckon one of their best yet!

Blue Juice is one of those labels that once you realise just how awesome and well-priced it is, you get completely hooked, and become one of the savage pack of Frockers who pounce on the website at the mere mention of new stock, teeth bared and claws at the ready...(in other words, hot new pieces sell out fast so keep your eyes peeled). This summer they're mixing african tribal colours with middle eastern flavours, and as usual covering everything from party frocks to casual tees to workwear that is anything but boring - they've even done a few knits and jackets which means you can justify buying them in winter! And I have dibs on one of the white Grecian dresses. MINE, I tell you, MINE!

Summer calls for a bright new bag, and if you dn't want to shell out thousands for the latest IT-bag, or even hundreds for your arm-attire because you'd rather buy icy cool daiquiris, then Fanciulla have got you covered. For less somewhere between $50-$120 they've got some fabulously versatile and good lookin' bags, in pretty colours as well as your staple black, tan and white. They've also thoughtfully added "travel partners", not in the form of good looking backpackers, but cabin bags, satchels with loads of pockets and small makeup/jewellery cases!

Birds of a Feather don't do monthly injections year-round like most labels, but it's always worth the wait. This summer, they've called their range "Pretty Things, Peculiar Places" which is enchanting enough, but the range of whimsical frocks, girly tops and cute shorts and skirts is not only wearable but so darn cute! If you can get past the slightly odd see-through shots, you'll see a gorgeous range in simple colours - it'll bring out your girly side!
