I was lucky enough to be approached by the lovely Christie at parenting blog, Childhood101, to contribute to her fabulous 'Everyday Glamour' series. You can check out my post on simple fashion tips for glamming up your wardrobe here, but of course while you're there you might as well enjoy tips on makeup, health and fitness, and general yummy-mummy-ness!
I admit I hadn't read Childhood101 prior ot being asked to contribute, but after spedning an evening browsing through the archives I'm happy to report that this is a no-nonsense, practical, and delightful blog. Indeed, its not just a parenting blog - it's THE Parenting Blog of the Year (Nuffnag Asia-Pacific Blog Awards 2009). Yeah, go Christie! It's the type of advice you really need when it's 6pm and your toddler is hitting crazy time (or, as Jo from Monster Baby accurately puts it, Bitchin' Hour) - from craft ideas to cooking, early learning, developement and milestones, and advice on how to stay sane when you've found crayons mushed into the good carpet (my tip number one: give up on the idea of "good carpet"), it's dished out from the front line, as Christie is not only Mum to a gorgeous 2 year old, she's also a Child Care Centre Director. Well worth bookmarking!

New Spring Arrivals for Lady Frockers!
(NB: Little Frockers, watch this space (or get Mum to) - Munser, Missie Munster, Chilli Kids, Walnut, Baobab and Itch instore shortly!)
The last few weeks have been grey, dreary and rainy, but thankfully here at Frock HQ there are oodles of bright new Spring pieces to keep us from going nuts. Here's a few must-buys I thought I'd better alert you to before they sell out (Motel fans, take heed - many styles selling through at record rates despite being on the site less then a week!):
Sunny Girl Grey Boyfriend Blazer ($69.95): still a raging hot piece, the blazer is made lighter for spring, in a lovely shade of grey with a relaxed 'boyfriend' fit. Makes a pretty sundress that much more edgier (though grammatically dubious), or looks sexy and modern teamed with a tee and denim cutoffs. This version is a nice light linen and you can wear the sleeves cuffed to show off the cool stripey lining!
Motel Selina Dress ($110): I couldn't decide which Motel piece to put on here, as they are all really amazing this season, but I do like the bright blue skirt of the Selina dress (despite the name Selina making me think of the gummy Home & Away chick. Incidentally why is it called Home & Away? When are they ever 'Away'? Where are the scenes outside Summer Bay?) The jersey tank top and full skirt is flattering to pretty much everyone, unlike the skintight legging-jeans I saw a group of oversized bogan teenagers sporting in the local mall yesterday. OMG.
Two pieces from GRAB get a mention this week - the really really cool Ladder Detail Tank ($79.95), which has an edgy, rock chic style, and requires little else to make your outfit stand out, I'm thinking it's the perfect gigging top; and the chic Pointelle Wide Sleeve Knit ($89.95), which falls neatly into the 'dressy casual' category I like to pretend I invented to justify any expensive jeans that somehow end up in my wardrobe. Imagine this top with pale denim, a tan bag and heels - easy, simple and sophisticated.
A sweet little tee is a must for Spring, and French Kitty's Side Show Act Top ($49.95) has a cute bow at the neckline, giving it a nautical feel - but thankfully the pink and grey stripes make it more girly than yacht-y. Not that there's anything wrong with yacht-y, if it is even a word, but how many of us own a yacht on which to wear suitably nautical attire?
This week there'll be new arrivals from Blue Juice, Lucky 13 & Pink Stitch, so check the site daily and follow us on Twitter for instant updates! Plus, due to your overwhelming requests/demands, the Spring/Summer '09/10 catalogue is in the works, and should be available to view online mid-September. I'm wary of print versions as I am more than a bit anal about wasting paper and trees, but if we can find a decent printer we just might do a very limited print run...!

Living Doll V Neck Dress: this is a definite wardrobe staple - perfect for lazy summer days when it's too hot to care, for throwing over a bikini or accessorising with a belt/scarf/chunky bangles, it truly is an effortless piece that looks casual and chic at the same time. Plus it's only $34.95!

Autumn/Winter: prepare to fall in luuurve!
Not with the weather obviously, nor was that some sort of psychic prediction about your personal life. Simply, A/W '09 is so romantic and lovely and gosh darn pretty that you'll want the gorgeous summer weather to bugger right off so you can wear it! A new box of Motel arrived today (the Lily dress is already online and selling even though we haven't got all the photos yet; it was used in a Drop Dead Gorgeous ad a few weeks ago and the hold list is running hot!) - I suggest you get in quick tomorrow night and Friday when it should be all up because last season the whole lot sold out in a week, without any form of advertising; it was like all these Motel-devotees suddenly sauntered out from the hills, snatched what they could and retreated quick smart from whence they came...you have been warned!
And speaking of awesome, (ooh, segue) be sure to check out Style Collective, a new initiative by a lovely lass called Amanda. It's basically an online directory-cum-magazine-cum-sales alert-cum-latest and greatest, helpfully divided into Urban Style, Junior Style, Bridal and Urban Living. It's updated every day and is beautifully laid out. Add it to your favourites now!
A new label sure to please grown-ups, Mimosa has also just arrived (look out for it online in a day or two) and it's very Audrey-esque, classic, gorgeous, sophisticated, and one of our pricier labels, but in this season where the R-word prevails, my tip is to invest, invest, invest. (And when I say pricey, everything we're getting is under $200 anyway which is comparatively cheap, especially for winter coats!). Accessories start at $39.95, coats will be about $180, dresses about $150 and basics about $50. You've probably seen it in magazines recently, and Frock You is one of the few stockists online (and they gave us free scarves to prove it!) so you are a very lucky bunch of ladies...
Our current fave pieces are from French Kitty - cardis with bows never fail to please! There's a stack more waiting to be photographed an uploaded so keep checking back. We've also got a nice big carton of purse-friendly Living Doll, whose ranges just keep getting better and better - maybe I shouldn't say this, but they often show their ranges from samples and between you and me, you are getting $400 dress styles picked up at Barneys, re-modelled and sold for $80. It's awesome.

Frock You Autumn/Winter '09 Catalogue Sneaky Peek
It's been many long nights, cups of coffees and urgent phone calls in the making, but when Mat (yes, it's time to name and shame) stops planning his London trip and finishes the last bits'n'pieces of our inaugural, interactive e-catalogue, it'll be available for one and all in all it's glory. Here are some sneaky peek piccys (hint: this A/W is one of the best seasons ever. Recessionista-chic might be taking hold but it'll be easy to do with the clean lines, simple shapes and gorgeous detailing of these collections. Plus, one can never have enough coats. Ever.)
We shot the Country Weekend spread at Windleigh farm, in the late afternoon against a stunning background. Plus, it makes gumboots look damn cool. The idea is "ladylike charm" with lush knits, intricate details and rich textures. The above strapless dress by Motel is covered in red roses, looking striking with the simple black knit longline cardi by GRAB. The knit dress is also by GRAB and I have to admit I hated it at first, but then we put it in context and it has a real warmth (figuratively and literally), and super chic cut to it. I'll be putting my hand up for one!
The other piece everyone must have (welll, not everyone cos we won't stock six billion of them) is the Andriod denim trench below. It's super super super cool, classic yet modern, and one of those pieces people will stop you in the street to ask you where you got it. 
The zip skirt is already instore here ($89.95) and if rock chic is your thang, this is definitely a must-have piece for your winter wardrobe. And you can wear it in summer, just ditch the tights! See, recessionista-shopping is as easy as that....the cute knit with it reminds me a little of a futuristic, Star Trek type piece, but is super soft and very delicate, making a cool contrast with the skirt. Anyway, it's about time fashion moved forward instead of rehashing old shapes. It will be available next week!
You may have noticed new winter stock hitting the store - new pieces will be added every day so check back. Hot sellers so far as the Lucky 13 Bandage Dress ($129.95_ which sold out of it's first run in a day but luckily lovely Irena at Lucky 13 expressed some more down to us, so we're all restocked, and One Teaspoon's 3/4 Holster Bodysuits, in grey or black - a fabulous basic for a streamlined silhouette and a bargain at $69.95!

Sweaty Betty: Man, is it hot!
It's hot. (Insigtful observation, I know). It hasn't been this hot for about 22 years, and the only evidence I have of this is a picture of myself at about 18 months, clothed only in a uncomfortable-looking cloth nappy, standing on my Mum's kitchen bench next to a fan and looking very pleased with myself. Ah, to get back to the 80's where children could happily frolic on benchtops near electrical appliances without fear of reprecussion. Thankfully, my house, car and office has the mod-con of air-con and it's been crankin' today. Charlotte sensibly made a little bed right in front of the air con and slept there happily all afternoon.
Now, I know if you live elsewhere in Oz (and, for the record, Tas is part of the country too, which some mainlanders find difficult to fathom) stinking hot days of 40 degrees occur reasonably regularly in the summer. I feel sorry for people in say, Adelaide, because a) they live in Adelaide and b) from what I can tell or what weather reports tell me, summers are always stupidly hot there. Stop complaining, Taswegian! I hear you say. By the weekend it'll have cooled down to the high 20's (perfect summer weather, actually) and in a few months it'll be back to the high teens, and the mercury won't rise until at least December. Except Hobart, where it'll be 31 tomorrow and 13 the next day. In case you're interested in such things, you can, like my partner, spend the best part of hot afternoons in your boardshorts or pj shorts avidly checking and re-checking Weather Zone for an up-to the minute report of the temperature. Constantly updating everyone within earshot of what celsius we have reached will not, however, make the air any cooler. Nor will standing on your front lawn at midday WATERING IT. OH MY GOD. I can't think of a more arrogant and ignorant gesture, when the country is plagued by drought, the earth is running short on water and it hasn't rained for months than vainly attempting to keep your front lawn green. In the middle of the day, with a hose AND sprinkler. Even when your neighbours are doing it, it's not an excuse for everyone else to. These people, however, are the type that Windex their driveway. Can I put it out there, that if you see someone doing it, either switch off their water source, dob them into the council or local paper, or leave a nasty letter in their letterbox and then get the kids from down the street do a nice big skid on their driveway with their BMX's. No need to go Al Gore on them, just a simple "are you a fucking nutbag?" will do the job nicely.
On another note, today at Frock You we received some lovely winter coats. They are truly lovely (new season update coming soon, and the A/W '09 catalogue is out next week!) but seriously I know you aint gonna want to buy them yet. Fashion seasons work in mysterious ways. I tried to buy some beach towels yesterday, as ours have been in the front-loader one too many times and resemble exfoliating gloves, and after extensive searching managed to find the very last non-velour one in the entire city. It's fugly as all fug, but it'll do. I also wanted to get some plain s/s tees for Charli and another swimsuit for myself, but apparently High Summer is just when you want to be stocking up on long sleeved and knitted apparel. And before you say anything, yes I know it happens every year but it still pisses me off. Though not as much as a shiny green lawn on a hot, hot day...(and also not as much as summer "fashion" choices, seriously love a tea towel is not a dress regardless of how sweaty you are, but more on that tomorrow)!
